Ruins ......
......of the old Nunnery on the Isle of Iona, I understand that the residents for many years used the ruins for building materials for the construction of their houses, and when the historical reconstruction of the Abbey started it was decided that there was not enough of the materials left to reconstruct the nunnery so it is just preserved in it's present state of ruin......
Thanks for stopping by, it is appreciated.....

Well they certainly have kept the gardens up in the old Nunnery. Now the next time someone says, "Get thee to a nunnery!" I know where to go, and actually would like to go here. Nicely done Den!Regards,
Archie

picturesque, nostalgic ... makes one realize howlong ago stone was put on top of stone and the
building was standing strong for many years ...
a fine capture, great from this angle !!!

The same thing happened all over the UK after HenryVIII decided to tear down almost all of the old Monasteries and Churches. The ruins were then raided for the stone to use in building homes etc.Even though this is a ruin it is still very beautiful with its garden. A beautiful and quiet place to sit a while.

but this must be a very cold home, no matter how they could heat a single room inside ... but this could be the reason, why the put the chappels down and made small houses with the stones. This looks very nice with some flowers
