Santa Maria del Mar

Very near the church of Santa Maria del Mar, was the foss where they were buried fallen from the September 11th, in 1714, when Barcelona was taken by the troops of Philip V. Despite the disappearance of the cemetery, the place always kept its character and its emblematic meaning patriotic. Carme Fiol planned the remodeling in 1989. It was knocked down houses built above and the space is paved with red tiles, a symbol of blood spilled. It was subsequently restored the facades of the eighteenth century leading to the plaza. In the low wall that closes the space could be read the verse that Pitarra devoted to the place. The cauldron is the work of Albert Vilaplana
