When I see simple devices like this, I do think about my father. I am, one would call it in the UK, a mechanical engineer. My father was a florist. As child I did love to turn those kinds of levers, with gears, rods and counter weights, opening 10, maybe 20 windows of a greenhouse at the time. Seldom you will find them freshly paint. No, even those are together with the plants growing brown and green.
