Stairs Guindais / Porto, Portugal

Outside the walls , clinging to the steep slope, seeps into the houses in difficult balances cut by endless stairways , which crib to be reflected in the Douro . Seen up close, is a complex micro world and mazes intertwined inextricably linked to the dorsal line the steep staircase.
About the origin of the word Guindais there are several explanations . Scholars connect topónimo the word " Guindal " that another associate , " Ginjal " which would be where morello trees planted . Now the word " cherry " in Spanish means " Sandhill Crane " and then admit the origin Guindais .
But there are also those who believe that the toponym in question originates in galindos , a people who lived in the second century at the mouth of the Vistula River and in the time of the Goths , have spent the Iberian Peninsula perpetuating its presence in a place they called Galinden and that would be our Guindais .
Crowned by the last of the wall panels Fernandina nevertheless maintains a climate of suburbs , in the heart of Oporto .
