The Frozen World (7) : Coots
It was a pleasure to see these Eurasian Coots walking and sliding on the ice.
In the present bitter cold weather however, many Coots become winter victim and die of starvation.
Dutch name : Meerkoet
German name : Blässhuhn
Latin name : Fulica atra
Location : Nature reserve ‘Walenhoek’ at Niel (Belgium)

Ein feines Foto der Blässhühnchen auf dem Eis, Mark, gut gelungen die Belichtung des schwarzen Gefieders.Wenn alles zufriert wird es schwierig für sie, hier bei uns weichen sie dann auf größere Flüße aus.

This is a beautiful shot. It is interesting how different these coots are to the Redknobbed ones that we get in South AfricaIt is a pity that they starve in the winter, but I suppose that is part of natures way
