The Fungi world (108) : Birch polypore

Birch polypore grows almost exclusively on weakened birches as a parasite and causes brown rot and eventually death of the tree, as happened with the one in the shot.

Most fungi live only 3 to 4 days, but there are exceptions. This species can easily reach an age older than 2 years.
The specimen you see here is the same one that I photographed 10 months ago in snowy conditions (see picture below) and it still looks pretty alive and kicking.
