The Fungi World (194) : Summer Velvet Shank

It’s fungi time again. Hurray ! :-))

In autumn, the forest is a real fascinating paradise for fungi with dozens of species that emerge from the soil.
Let’s have a look at what I found this year.

Today I start with the Summer Velvet Shank.

************************************

Nearly all fungi of the Flammulina genus grow usually in the cold and harsh winter months when most other fungi take a rest.
Not so for this species of the family that can be found from august to october (hence the indication ‘summer’ in its name)

It’s a rather rare fungus that grows mostly on dead trunks of ash, beech or poplars.

Dutch name : Zomerfluweelpootje
German name : Blasshütiger Samtfussrübling
Latin name : Flammulina fennae
