The Fungi World (258) : Shaggy Parasol

Shaggy Parasol is a fungus with thick brown scales and protuberances on its fleshy cap which grows wider and flatter during the maturation.

Shaggy Parasol is popularly praised as a good edible mushroom although it contains toxins which can cause gastric upsets when eaten raw or undercooked.
Some people suffer from a strong allergic response, even after cooking.

Furthermore, a young Shaggy Parasol looks identical to the highly poisonous False Parasol (Chlorophyllum molybdites), the fungus that causes the most poisonings in North America yearly.

So, be very carefull and watch out !

Dutch name : Knolparasolzwam
