The Fungi World (340) : Pale Milkcap

Pale milkcap is a fungus that likes to grow on the floor in deciduous woodland, mainly under beech (and sometimes birch). Occurs throughout summer and autumn.

It is pale in colour, but can also have a pale brown or pale flesh colour depending on the soil it grows.

When this fungus is cut or damaged, a white and watery latex (milk) is exuded that has a mild to moderately piquant taste.

Dutch name : Bleke melkzwam
German name : Falbe Milchling (auch Fleischblasse Milchling genannt)
Latin name : Lactarius pallidus
