The Living Forest (164) : Dung Beetle

The Dung Beetle is a beetle that feeds mainly on faeces (excreted by mammals and birds) and partly on fungi.
An important species in nature !

It’s a very active worker too. The specimen in the shot was even rolling a horse dung-ball five times as big as himself !

This beetle lives on all continents, except Antarctica.

Dutch name : Bosmestkever
German name : Waldmistkäver
Latin name : Anoplotrupes stercorosus
