The Living Forest (323) : Cow-Wheat

I’m quite sure that this is a wildflower that most of you have never seen before, because it's rather rare and besides pretty small (0,5 to 1 cm)

Cow-wheat with its tiny yellow flowers is a semi-parasite plant which sucks water and nutrition from its neighboring plants and trees (especially pines).

The plant is an Ancient Woodland (°) indicator.

Dutch name : Hengel
German name : Wiesen-Wachtelweizen
Latin name : Melampyrum pratense

(°) : a forest that has existed continuously since 1600 or before.
