The Living Forest (516) Flax

Flax, also known as linseed, is a food and fiber crop, cultivated in cooler regions of the world.

Textiles made from flax are known as linen and were traditionally used for bed sheets, underclothes and table linen while its oil is known as linseed oil.

By the early 20th century, flax lost its importance as a commercial crop due to the introduction of cheap cotton.

I spotted this lonely but beautiful flowering flax plant just above the waterline of a forest river.
It's the first time I saw it in the wild.
