The Middle Ages (102) : Nyckelharpa player

This series is an attempt to illustrate how life was going on in the Middle Ages.

My shot shows a musician playing the nyckelharpa.

The nyckelharpa is a stringed instrument, invented in the 14th century in Sweden.

Melodies are played with a short bow across the strings in combination with wooden push buttons that slide under the strings to change the pitch of the music.

Photographed at medieval festival of castle Reinhardstein (Robertville, Belgium).
