The Middle Ages (107) : Mongolian Lady

This series is an attempt to illustrate how life was going on in the Middle Ages.

In the 13th century, the warrior Genghis Khan was the absolute ruler of the great Mongol Empire, that stretched from what is now China and Russia to the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

In that time, the first trade missions were started up and goods were being traded along the silk road from Mongolia and China all the way to western kingdoms.

My picture shows a Mongolian lady who visits a western royal court for the promotion of expensive silk fabrics.

Photographed at medieval festival of castle Sterckshof (Deurne, Belgium)
