The Middle Ages (67) : Executioner

This series is an attempt to illustrate how life was going on in the Middle Ages.

Many innocent women were accused of witchcraft or of 'having slept with the devil'.

The cruelty of the Roman Catholic methods of witch-prosecution were very brutal.
A convicted woman was either burned alive at the stake or beheaded.

My shot shows an executioner who has just finished his bloody job.

Photographed at medieval festival of castle Franchimont (Belgium).
