The Middle Ages (96) : Chess players

This series is an attempt to illustrate how life was going on in the Middle Ages.

Chess is believed to have originated in India, at the end of the 6th century.
All pieces got their current movements in Spain in the late 15th century and the rules were finally standardized worldwide in the 19th century.

In the Middle Ages, chess was a part of noble culture.
Nowadays, it is played by millions of people worldwide.
