The Roman Wall at Walltown Crags
Above Walltown Crags you get a good impression of how closely the wall followed the contour of the succession of escarpments in this area - my favourite section of The Wall, and not too heavily restored. Originally five metres in height, here can be seen the inner core of rubble and the outer facing stones, and the bleak vista that would have made many a legionaire long for home!
