The Seven Pillars of Wisdom
Jordan, Wadi Rum, May 2009
The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a large rock formation in Wadi Rum, named after the book of Thomas Edward Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia).
This book is an autobiographical account of his experiences as a British soldier. He was renowned especially for his liaison role during the
Arab Revolt of 1916/18. Many sites inside the Wadi Rum area have been named after Lawrence to attract tourists, although there is little or no
evidence connecting him to any of these places, including the famous rock formations near the entrance now known as "The Seven Pillars".

P.S. I also like the typical desert colors, clearly the shot was taken when the sun was already fairly high up. cathy† cathy Blatt 07/07/2015 16:53
such a magnificent scene showing horizontal and vertical lines. Thank you also for the background story, cathySue Thompson 07/07/2015 15:36
A fascinating place and that great rock formation just seems to appear straight out of the sand.Perhaps a touch more editing would bring out more detail in the rock and colour to the sky.
