Twisted Willow Maze
Thousands of people are being relocated to new compounds in the southwest of China. This particular 'nu-village' houses people who have been moved from the Huai River flood zone. The elders stay at home, and care for the grandchildren while the parents travel long distances to find work. The wicker work seen here is made by hand. A septuagenarian couple warm, bend, and twist the branches while smoking, laughing, and drinking green tea. The end result is destined for the West to be sold on at an inflated price.
