via dolorosa
Israel Jerusalem
In Jerusalem there are many Christians wanting to walk and pray on the same traces that marked the Cross loaded Jesus painful way towards the Golgotha hill. This road through the cloisters and narrow streets of the ancient city is named "via dolorosa".(the painful way).

A lonely walk !Alfredo Ruiz Baltanás 13/02/2014 23:12

oh, of course!! i missed that… and i guess the pain and horror of having to carry one's own cross to the place, where one will soon be crucified can hardly be imagined, let alone relived, so pensiveness, deep meditation, cocooning into the innermost self are the only way to deal with it; hence the treacherously relaxed pose maybe… thank you for putting me "in the picture", alexander! greetings, sabine.alexander stefanatos 24/01/2014 21:16
His hands are tied up with a rope behind his back, Sabine. Others select to make the way carrying a cross like Jesus, others walk reading the Evangiles etc,etc...A matter of personal faith...How much they pray..i don't really know!alexander

i agree with adele on the beauty of the word dolor! and yet, strangely enough, "via dolorosa" for me always has an almost pleasurable musical ring to it. maybe it's because i hear "rosa"… "indulging in pain", celebrating it, comes to my mind, whenever i hear it… consquently, what strikes me most about the image, is the somewhat hollow and unrelenting feel to the arched, cave-like stone passage, and how it's counterposed by the leisurely and relaxed pose of the anonymous walker! lots of food for thought… my favorite detail: the light washing down the road like a wave of… sorrow? a charismatic place that's all about feeling, commemorating, imagining etc..… magically photographed, alexander!! greetings, sabine.Harold Thompson 24/01/2014 9:41
Good exposure retaining the detail in highlights and shadows nice lead through and position of the figure:-)) Harold

an excellent image from this angle, great handling of the light, great details and textures, and the person walking adds to the feeling of sadness and hopelessness .... for me just the word "dolor" is so much more expressive than pain or Schmerz !!!greetings, Adele
