Witch-Hazel

Despite lots of snow and cold frost during the last weeks, the Witch-Hazel is now in full bloom !
It’s a well known strong winter bloomer with striking shaped flowers.

This large shrub or small deciduous tree, native to China, Japan and north America, was introduced into European gardens at the end of the 19th century.

The picture shows a cross breeding between a Chinese and a Japanese Witch-Hazel.

Dutch name : Toverhazelaar
German name : Zaubernuss
Latin name : Hamamelis intermedia (H. mollis x H. japonica)

A big thanks to Die Mohnblumen for the nomination of this picture.
