Thakur Dalip Singh son of Maharaj Bir Singh ji was born on 5th August, 1953, at village Sri Bhaini Sahib in the district of Ludhiana, Punjab (INDIA). He is the nephew of His Holiness Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji, Supreme Spiritual Head of Namdhari Sikhs. His father introduced him to photography in childhood. Later on, refinement in the art was taught by His Holiness Sri Satguru ji. Full involvement in photography was initiated in 1977 under the care and guidance of eminent photographers of the country, such as sarvashri R.K chib, Madan Mahatta, Rajesh Bedi and Om Prakash Sharma.
By profession he is agriculturist, but he is very keen sports promoter and lover. He prepared India’s top ranking Namdhari Hockey Team ( players from which represented India in Olympics and as a team it has played several matches in foreign hockey playing countries, where it has defeated many top clubs and won a tournament in Kenya by defeating national side.) and produced national level athletes also. He has made a college in remote area of Haryana and ran a school very successfully. He has organized very successfully several religious functions of national level.
“BHIRTPUR BIRD PARADISE” A book with superb pictures by him is a good collection showing his expertise. Many other books are also illustrated with his superb images like “Jungle Life Of India” “Birds Of India”, Handbook Of Birds Of India And Nepal” etc. "Kaziranga Inheritage", "Animal Encyclopeadia", "Karnataka Wild life". Pictures by him secured places on the covers of British Journal Of Photography, Sanctuary Asia, Indian Photography And Cinematography and many other publications. A number of these have been published in B.B.C Wildlife, “35 mm Photography”, U.K., ‘Photography’ U.K., Femina, Zoom, Asiad 82 magazine, Swagat, Discover India, most Indian newspapers and several other publications. He is Founder Member of “India International Photographic Council”, and trustee of “Academy of Visual Media”.
He is "Patron of Punjabi Kala Academy" In addition, he is also a life member of the ‘Bombay Natural History Society” and ‘World Wildlife Fund, India”. He was founder president of ‘LENSMEN’ club, Ludhiana, Pb., as well as was member of executive committee of India International Photographic Council. He has been honoured with the Associateship Of The Indian International Photographic Council in 1986 and ‘Associateship’ of Royal Photographic Society, U.K, in 1987. He held several one-man shows at different places. “Artist Of The Year 1993” by ‘CONCEPT’, Chandigarh was conferred upon him. “Life Time Achievement Award” Conferred by Academy of Visual Media in 2004. He was FACULTY MEMBER in several International and National photo workshops and has given several illustrated talks on photo technique also. He has judged several national and international photo exhibitions.
He has won 150 International and National Awards, only few of which are listed below: Grand prize (Return Ticket to Paris) by British airways 1988. World Press Photo Competition, Holland, 1980. Certificate of Merit for picture story, Prize from ‘SLR Camera’, Magazine-England, for a new photo technique, 1983. TWO PHOTOS ON POSTAGE STAMPS AND TWO ON FIRST DAY COVERS, 1987.
