dawn at Sana'a

This photo was taken atop the tallest building in Sana'a, the biblical town and capital of Yemen. The Call to Prayer woke me from my slumber at 4.30am. I got my camera and tripod ready for the first glimpse of dawn at 4.50am and this is the result. The city hasnt changed much in 2000 years. it has obviously grown a great deal in size since the time of Mohammed but the architectural style has remained true all the while. this consistency has enabled the city to maintain its original charm. it is the first city i have ever seen that is truly old without being a museum piece like so many of the great Medieval and Renaissance cities of italy and continental Europe.
