RhB.107 "Albula"

Named for another route along the Rhätische Bahn, but nonetheless intimately familiar with every kilometer of the Vorderrhein route, along which she is delighting her passengers and countless track-side admirers, RhB.107 “Albula” is ready to depart Sumvitg/Compadials for the trip through the Vorderrhein gorge and thence up to Chur and Landquart on this photo-perfect early October day in 2011.

Behind her consist of vintage RhB carriages can be seen another classic, RhB 414 Krokodil, with a water tanker. Herr Kroki has been following all day (at a discreet distance), just in case a spark from the old gal's stack lands where it shouldn’t.

Can you smell the coal smoke?

Alle einsteigen!

P.S.: Tom's comment reminded me of another favorite piece of "Dampfzug-Musik" by the Strauss family of Vienna. While my all-time favorite in that category is the lively "Bahn Frei Polka" by Eduard Strauss, very close behind is the wonderful "Vergnügungszug" (Pleasure Train) Polka by Johann Strauss Jr, Vienna's Waltz King. So to accompany this "Vergnügungszug" image, here is a magical video moment, for both lovers of steam trains and Wienermusik. As they say on the ORF, "Es spielt der Wiener Philharmoniker unter der leitung von Willi Boskovsky!" Enjoy!
