For atonment and expiation...
Turkie Central Anatolia Cappadocia
Cappadocia is the less hospitable and maybe most primitive region of Turkie in the remote part of Anatolia. But, on the other hand, it is extremely picturesque and famous for it's awkward geological, chimney-like rock formations due, most probably, to rain scarsity and extremes of temperature. Apart from that Cappadocia is loaded with history. During the Byzantine era this region of the empire was a very hostile destination for deportation and exile because of it's remote, deserted and not easily accessible location and especially because of the frequent and desastrous attacks of robbers and ennemies. But, because of all these awkward peculiarities, it became also the land of absolute ascetism, self exile for sin repenters and humble residence for monks. Consequently, Cappadocia rapidly became the site of many monasteries, a great number of them built underground for protection, with their walls covered with precious frescoes. It is in these monasteries that , often, even Byzantine emperors used to seek refuge denouncing their ephemeral power and begging for atonment and expiation.

remote, notorious, yet strangely wonderful! what an impressive rockscape and scenery indeed!! easy to imagine it as a fertile breeding ground for all kinds of stories, legends, myths and fairy-tales! the mere abundance of those goblin-like rocks would get snow white jealous, whose entourage consisted of only 7 dwarfs rather than a whole army of them! ; ) despite being a perfect location for "atonement and expiation", the place also has an adventurous and strangely happy air to it… love, how you included the "parked camel" ; ) in the composition. it enlivens the image and brings out the dimensions beautifully! greetings, sabine. p.s.: really enjoyed reading the added text!Harold Thompson 20/12/2013 9:21
