Grangemouth & Kincardine Bridge

Standing on Cairnpapple Hill and looking NNW the focus is on the farmland, dotted with small woods and rolling hills for which Lothian is known. In the middle distance you can see the other side of Lothian in form of the Grangemouth Oil Refinery. Beyond this is the Kincardine Bridge situated and if you let your gaze wander beyond the bridge you can see the small towns of Alloa and Clackmannan in front of the Ochill Hills. Unfortunately, the distance view on this September morning was somewhat limited by the haze.
Even if this area does not correspond to the typical ideas of a lonely, wildly romantic highland with old castles steeped in history, there are still many small pearls to be discovered here, so that you should not rush by. For example: Hopetoun House and Blackness Castle at the Firth of Fourth, the Boness Railway Museum , Linlithgow Palace, Crusader-related Torphichen Church, the County Parks of Beecraigs and Muiravonside for lovely walks, to name but a few.

Wenn man auf dem Cairnpapple Hill stehen den Bilick nach NNW richtet, entdeckt man im Vordergrund das von kleinen Wäldern und sanften Hügeln gesprenkelte Farmland, für das Lothian bekannt ist. Im Mittelgrund erkennt man die andere Seite Lothians in Form der Grangemouth Ölraffinerie. Dahinter entdeckt man die Kincardine Bridge und wenn man seinen Blick weiter schweifen lässt sind jenseits der Brücke die kleinen Städte Alloa und Clackmannan vor den Ochill Hills erkennbar. Leider war die Fernsicht an diesem Septembermorgen durch den Dunst etwas eingeschränkt.
Auch wenn diese Gegend vielleicht nicht den typischen Vorstellungen vom einsamen, wildromantischen Hochland mit alten, geschichtsträchtigen Burgen entspricht, gibt es hier doch viele kleine Perlen zu entdecken, an denen man nicht vorschnell vorbeifahren sollte. Zum Beispiel: Hopetoun House und Blackness Castle am Firth of Fourth, das Eisenbahnmuseum in Boness, Linlithgow Palace, Torphichen Church mit Bezug zu den Kreuzrittern, die County Parks von Beecraigs und Muiravonside für schöne Spaziergänge, um nur einige wenige zu nennen.
