Longannet and Grangemouth

As already reported on the penultimate picture, I would like to show you the contrariness and immediate proximity of agriculture and industry in central Scotland. In the foreground you can see, from the A 985 in Fife - over the Firth of Forth - to the south, the fields in front of the abandoned Longannet Power Station. In the background you can see the oil refinery of Grangmouth. The bottom left picture shows the view north, from the new Kinkardine Bridge (Clackmannanshire Bridge) to the Ochil hills. All shots were taken from the moving car again.

Wie bereits beim vorletzten Bild berichtet, möchte ich euch die Gegensätzlichkeit und unmittelbare Nähe von Landwirtschaft und Industrie im zentralen Schottland zeigen. Im Vordergrund erkennt man beim Blick von der A 985 in Fife - über den Firth of Forth - nach Süden, die Felder vor der aufgegebenen Longannet Power Station. Im Hintergrund ist die Ölraffinerie von Grangmouth zu erkennen. Das Bild unten rechts zeigt den Blick von der neuen, unscheinbaren Kinkardine Bridge (Clackmannanshire Bridge) nach Norden zu den Ochil Hills. Alle Aufnahmen wurden wieder aus dem fahrenden Auto aufgenommen.

Scotland's last deep coal mine was put into liquidation yesterday with the possible loss of more than 500 jobs.
Centuries of mining tradition came to an end when 77m litres (17m gallons) of water flooded the Longannet pit in Fife last Saturday after a dam separating old workings from new seams under the river Forth collapsed. If the breach had occurred 24 hours earlier, hundreds of miners would have drowned. The water poured into the five-mile mineshafts 1,970ft (600m) below ground in less than 10 minutes

Schottlands letzte tiefe Kohlenmine wurde gestern in Liquidation gebracht, mit dem möglichen Verlust von mehr als 500 Arbeitsplätzen. Die Jahrhunderte alte Bergbautradition endete, als am vergangenen Samstag 77 Millionen Liter Wasser die Longannet Grube in Fife überfluteten, nachdem ein Damm, der alte Arbeiten von neuen Flözen unter dem Fluss Forth trennte, zusammenbrach. Wenn der Bruch 24 Stunden zuvor stattgefunden hätte, wären Hunderte von Bergleuten ertrunken. Das Wasser ergoss sich in weniger als 10 Minuten in die knapp 600 Meter tief gelegenen fünf Meilen langen Minenschächte.
