Man With Accordion (23 April 2005)
I was sitting in a cafe on the side of Las Ramblas having lunch with my friend Patrice, when this street musican came up and started playing. Patrice asked him if he knew a particular tune, and while he played it, I took these series of shots. He was aware I was taking photos, so he played to the camera as well as to the crowd.
This photograph was taken in Barcelona with a Pentax Optio S5i digital camera, and processed in Photoshop. A fake depth-of-field effect has been added, and a subtle "hand-tinted" effect added to the musician. I had some feedback on the original image, so when I came to enter the image in the competition, I took the original source image, and made a slightly more subtle DOF background effect, and evened out the brightness differences between the sunny background and shadowed foreground.
