Marigold and Gulf Blue.......the proud colours of the sixties

Maybe the GREATEST paint scheme ever put on a racing car?
Model: 1967 Porsche 911R *Recreation, Gulf Oil Replica*
Camera: Sony CD500
Rear deck and paint details on Tim Baker`s 1967 Porsche 911R Recreation at The 2006 HSR Spring Historics at the Sebring International Raceway
*My personal favorite Porsche racing currently in the east coast HSR vintage racing events here in the USA*

Tim`s beautiful Porsche features the colours of the Gulf Oil Racing Team of Marigold and Gulf Blue in a very faithful recreation of Swiss racing legend Jo Siffert`s 1967 Porsche 911R which was loaned out to be used in Steve McQueen`s 1970 movie "Le Mans"
Jo Siffert one of the world`s greatest racing drivers was tragically killed in a Formula One BRM at Brands Hatch in 1971

Please follow this link to a great website featuring the BRAND NEW film about Jo Siffert`s life, his career and his death

PS: Just For Your Information ~The 911R was the *Rennsport* version of the 911 (based on the 911S "Kurtzradstand" short wheelbase version)
Only 25 of these cars were built to special order in 1967 and were the FIRST ever hybrid Porsche 911 cars featuring ultra lightweight fiberglass, bumpers, deck lids, doors, plexiglass windshield, side, rear and door windows and a special 2 liter 12 plug prototype 6 cylinder motor with a 5 speed manual transmission, lightweight Fuchs wheels etc.
Production of this car sadly was CANCELED by Porsche due to bad marketing judgments and never reached the GT category the car remained only to be raced in the P or P2 Prototype series and some small Rally`s
Despite this setback the cars became a overnight legend (after a WORLD RECORD drive for Porsche and BP Oil at Monza) and is now in the eyes of some collectors one of the rarest Porsche`s ever produced

*A "basketcase" 1967 911R was just offered for sale in the UK for $300,000, making an R one of the most expensive and most sought after of all the 911`s*
