Mob violence

For years, the streets of Dhaka have been the setting for numerous gory battles between different religious, political and social groups, at times in confrontation with each other and at times in confrontation with the law enforcement. In this photo taken in April 2008, a policeman fires a teargas shell inside the Baitul Mukarram Mosque, the national mosque of Bangladesh, from where angry agitators had been pelting stones at the law enforcers who earlier broke up violent protestations by the ultra-religious groups of country’s women rights policy which enraged the community.
