7-Scape No.22 - Flushing-Bound 7 Train Entering Queensboro Plaza Upper Level
One of my favorite New York City Subway stations is the fascinating two-level
elevated structure that is Queensboro Plaza in Long Island City, Queens.
It is here that Flushing- or Manhattan-bound 7 trains share the platforms with the
longer and wider profile trains of the Astoria- or Manhattan-bound N and W trains.
The upper level platform is shared by outbound trains of both divisions,
A (IRT-7) and B (BMT-N+W), while the lower level serves Manhattan-bound trains.
In this street-level view, a Flushing-bound 7 train, having run along elevated structures in L-I-C since emerging
from the underground station at Hunters Point, has just passed under the iconic Silvercup Studios sign (*) on a long curving stretch of track, and is entering Queensboro Plaza Station on its upper level.
"7-Scapes" is a series of photographs, both under- and above-ground, taken along the route of
the 7 Train between 34th St-Hudson Yards in Manhattan and Flushing-Main St in Queens.
It grew out of a long-standing fascination with the line that began in my late teens
and which I finally began to document photographically in 2013.
