Amtrak Empire Service Train Crossing Spuyten Duyvil Bridge
Late on a December afternoon, Amtrak locomotive No. 716, a GE Genesis P32AC-DM powers this northbound Empire Service train as it crosses the Spuyten Duyvil swing bridge, where the Spuyten Duyvil meets the broad Hudson River.
The train has come up the west side of Manhattan from New York’s Penn Station on the “Empire Connection,”
and after crossing the bridge, it will merge onto the Hudson Line of the Metro-North Railroad. The dual-mode
locomotives use third-rail DC power to access Penn Station.
The handsome livery includes an Empire Service logo shield along the Amtrak stripes just aft of locomotive cab.
