An 'Urban' View Toward Midtown from L-I-C - A New York Impression

I don’t care how many times I’ve seen her, that first "new" view of the
Empire State Building always brings a smile - and a raised camera!

She may be peeking out between modern glass and steel towers in Midtown, reminding one of the sturdy old gal in Stephen Sondheim’s “Follies,” as she silently and proudly proclaims, in the midst of all the (architectural) “upstarts,”
I’m Still Here…

Or seen from countless viewpoints along the Hudson from Jersey City or Hoboken…

Or through the Washington Square Park Arch in the Village…
or beyond the elevated Subway tracks in Queens, or Brooklyn, or The Bronx...

It's always a very special moment.

This particular first view was on a mild evening last October. I’d taken the 7 train over to Long Island City,
mainly to view the Midtown skyline from amidst the massive gantries at Gantries Plaza State Park.
And as I’m walking along 50th Ave toward the river…well, just call me Pavlovian.

Yep, big smile…raised camera.
