Happy New Year, F-C!

Now, THIS is something I could really enjoy of a New Year's Eve...

Incidentally, the line is from Lorenz Hart's lyric to the Rodgers and Hart classic "Manhattan."(*)

So you think maybe the Holiday Nostalgia Trains are just a chance for us Subway devotees to ride on
and admire the old growlers with rattan seats, paddle-bladed fans on the ceilings, and signs for 5-cent
Lifebuoy soap and $12.00 hotel rooms?

Much more! When the Transit Museum and the MTA get together to run these trains in Holiday Season, each trip
is a complete and engaging "time-travel" event, with live Swing music to dance to or just enjoy on the platform. (**)

And IN the cars - music of the genres popular when these R1-9 cars took to the subterranean rails of the
then-new IND system in the '30s...AND lots of enthusiasts "dressing the part" in carefully chosen period outfits. (***)

As we awaited departure from the Second Avenue F Train station on a Sunday afternoon in early December, singer Myriam Phiro was performing in this 1930-built subway car, accompanied by her ensemble of guitar, bass, and violin.
If I may read it into his expression, I think the violinist may have been inspired by the sassy smile of Gina, the gal wearing the straw hat.

Festive, indeed, as only NYC can do it!

Happy New Year!
