It's so peaceful in the country...

It's so simple and quiet,
you really ought to try it...

Once upon a time, when popular music was good...and good music was
popular, Alec Wilder and Bill Engvick wrote this gently infectious tune.

It became both a standard of American Popular Song and a jazz staple. The great
jazz duo Jackie Cain and Roy Kral tapped into the gentle yearning of the lyrics
in a wonderful recording. Pianist Marian McParlland's recording was also a warmly
infectious treat. Much earlier, Percy Faith wrote a lovely lush arrangement for
orchestra in which Mitch Miller was oboe soloist. Oh, yes, and Frank Sinatra
(who greatly admired Wilder's music) sang it.

I'd like to think the owners of this house had at least one of those recordings in their record collection. I most certainly do...

And do we pick up the aroma of a freshly baked pumpkin pie cooling on a windowsill?

on this lovely summer's day, was viewing the peacefulness of the country through its "reversed" lens.
