Sunday in the Park with...Georgette

Well…in the interest of truth in reportage...as I recall, it was a Friday…

And I’m not even sure if this Tom Otterness “Real World” bronze sculpture in
Nelson A. Rockefeller Park in Battery Park City, in Lower Manhattan, has a name…

But, in rediscovering this image, taken on a summery sun-dappled afternoon in late
June 2014, my skewed sense of humor, often influenced by musical themes, put me in
the mind of Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Sunday in the Park with George.”

Did I say “skewed?” The musical was inspired by the pointillist paintings of nineteenth century French artist
George Seurat, whose subjects were pretty young Parisian demoiselles, not amusingly grotesque figures like this.

But I was in a "Sunday in the Park" state of mind on this last day of a visit to Manhattan…
and she is obviously attired as a female of the species…so…oh, well, you get the idea…

Georgette (or whatever her name might be) was shot on FomaPan Classic 100 film.

She/it is available in archival prints, and as a photo note card (which can be
customized with message, according to your own “skewed” sense of humor).

This is a superb shot, Steve.
Technically very nice in its b/w presentation of the FomaPan Classic 100 film (never heard of this film before!). I really like this photo and it amazes me. The motif itself is pure fun. I can´t say exactly what it is that appeals that much to me. But I´d say it´s the combination of this beautiful b/w presentation and the composition of your photo: the striking foreground and the discreet background, with the benches that appear to vanish in another reality. You were thinking of a musical when shooting this scene. I was thinking of the movie “ Planet of the Apes” when looking at this scene :-). Does Georgette smoke a cigar or what´s this in her mouth? P.S. "Georgette" seems to be the perfect name for her!
