Speeding overhead on their multi-lane ribbons of concrete carrying the Harbor Tunnel Thruway (I-895) and the stretch of I-95 bypassing
the city via the Fort McHenry Tunnel through this industrial zone in East Baltimore, drivers would be oblivious to a silent reminder
of the old Baltimore that sits, somewhat dwarfed, below on Newkirk Street, flanked by railroad tracks, warehouses, and docks.
Engine House 50 of the Baltimore City Fire Department, long unused, seems
to be assisting the concrete pylons in supporting the overhead Interstate.
