Autumn Afternoon at Ardsley No. 1 - A Metro North Moment

In the sunshine of an autumn afternoon in late October, a Metro North Railroad
Poughkeepsie-bound express is about to overtake a local at Ardsley-on-Hudson.

The express is being powered by a Genesis P32AC-DM dual-mode diesel-electric equipped with third rail pickups to enable electric operation in the long tunnels under Park Avenue in Manhattan departing Grand Central Terminal. Train control in the reverse direction is accomplished with control cab at rear of last coach, with the locomotive pushing.

A less common sight along the Hudson Line is the Brookville BL20GH "pure" diesel. These units were built for
the Metro North mainly for branchline service in Connecticut and along the northern reaches of the Harlem Line,
beyond the electrified trackage. This particular "Brookie" is wearing a special livery reminiscent of the bold 1950's
colors of the New Haven, one of the legacy railroads whose territory Metro North's commuter trains serve.
