Fondly Remembered
Southern Railway Steam Locomotive 4501 blasts through a grade
crossing in the Virginia countryside on a sultry summer afternoon.
She's pulling a long train of passenger cars on a fan trip in 1974.
Originally taken on Fujichrome slide film, the timeless
nature of the image led me to convert it to a classic black and white.
Truly, it could have just as easily been made (in B/W) in 1934,
when steam trains were a common sight on this line.
