Scarecrow and Texaco - No. 2
The picturesque town of Clifton, Virginia...
The old Texaco sign stands beside the Clifton General Store, whose employees many years ago must have
pumped gallons of Sky Chief and Fire Chief into the tanks of many a thirsty Hudson, Studebaker, Oldsmobile,
and Packard. No classic old pumps remain outside, but the sign is a clear testament to the town’s appreciation
of its past, and, to this photographer, an inviting slice of small town Americana.
These days, the General Store building also houses the Main Street Pub, whose scarecrow mascot, on
this autumn afternoon, leaves no doubt that it’s an Irish pub ;-) I hope he makes you smile, as he did me.
